The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the final register of voters for the forthcoming Anambra State Governorship Election, bringing the total number of eligible voters in the state to 2,802,790.

INEC said the update followed the just-concluded voter registration exercise held between 8th and 20th July 2025 across the state’s 326 wards.

A total of 168,187 citizens registered during the exercise, but after a one-week display for claims and objections as well as scrutiny using the Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS), 27,817 multiple and invalid registrations were struck out.

This left 140,370 new valid registrants, alongside 5,983 transfers, making a combined total of 146,353 new voters added to the roll.

According to National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, mni, Idemili North tops the register with 246,318 voters (8.79%), followed by Awka South with 216,611 (7.73%) and Ogbaru with 188,016 (6.71%).

At the bottom of the list are Dunukofia with 83,580 (2.98%) and Anambra West with 71,332 (2.55%).

Olumekun assured that all new registrants, as well as those who applied for transfers or replacement of lost/damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), will receive their cards well before the November 8 governorship election, now exactly 63 days away.

On political party registration, the Commission disclosed that the number of associations seeking recognition has surged to 171, following the receipt of 19 new letters of intent in the last update.

A shortlist of pre-qualified associations is currently being finalized for the next stage of screening.

However, INEC expressed concern over “frequent changes to logos, acronyms, addresses and interim leadership” by some groups, warning that such inconsistencies were delaying the registration process.

“We appeal to all associations to remain patient and consistent.

The Commission will treat all applications fairly,” Olumekun stated.

The Commission reiterated its commitment to transparency and timely communication as it prepares for the high-stakes Anambra election and continues to manage the influx of new political party applicants.
