Infrastructure Boost: Senate Committee Unveils Roadmap for South West Development

The Senate has on Tuesday expressed optimism that the South West Development Commission (SWDC) will significantly impact the region’s development by bridging infrastructural deficits and accelerating growth.

Senator Yunus Akintunde, Chairman of the Senate Committee on the South West Development, outlined a roadmap for transforming the region into a model of integrated development and economic revitalization.

According to him, the Key Objectives to SWDC are

– *Infrastructure Development:* The Commission aims to address infrastructural deficits and promote economic growth in the South West region.

– *Regional Development:* The Senate Committee plans to leverage the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN) framework to create a development model that can be replicated nationwide.

– *Stakeholder Engagement:* The Commission will engage stakeholders across the six South West states to ensure that interventions respond to the practical needs of communities.

Sen. Akintunde also mentioned that the Principles of Operation of SWDC include

– *Transparency:* The Committee will operate on the principles of transparency, innovation, and accountability.

– *Accountability:* The Commission will ensure that every intervention is responsive to the needs of communities in the region.

– *Results-Oriented:* The Committee is committed to delivering results, creating jobs, and promoting innovation hubs and real opportunities for the people.

He therefore informed that the Senate’s vision for the SWDC is to create a lasting impact on the region’s development and make a significant difference in the lives of the people.
