A primary school teacher of thirty-five-year-old, Mr. Buhari Garba living at Genima Street in Kachia Local Government Area, Southern part of Kaduna State has lashed out on the State Government’s Off and On promised and failed to repair the gully erosion that has swallow their home.

According to Mr. Garba in an interview with Reportcircle when visited his village, cried that the gully erosion has rendered him , his family and the community homeless and threatening to consume the only land their forefather left for them, saying if urgent attention is not given, a lot of lives, houses will be affected during this raining season.

He opined that there was a time a committee came here from both Federal and State Government in collaboration with our Local Government about five months ago, they made some measurement, took pictures of the place and said they were taken it to the Federal Government, maybe they will do something, we are still expecting something from them.

Mr. Buhari with crying, lamented how government have been disappointing them to fill up the erosion that has divided the community into two, pointing out that some dwellers and visitors have fallen inside the erosion several times but nobody die.  pointing at the gully.

“There was a time a committee came here from both Federal and State Government in collaboration with our Local Government about five months ago, they made some measurement, took pictures of the place and said they were taken it to the Federal Government, maybe they will do something, we are still expecting something from them.

“Our houses are going down; we are begging the Federal, State Government and the Local Government to please help us, the houses around the erosion will not survive this raining season.

“We are so happy when we saw you, we know you are going to help us through your medium to tell the Government what we are facing here” he stressed.

“About two adults fell in this erosion just last week, our children are also at risk because they play around here. Many others have been forced out of their houses, while many more are at the risk of possible displacement.

“Look at that house, the erosion has already caught up with it. I can’t dare to live here anymore, pointing at his house, which is at the mercy of erosion.

Narrating what he knows about the culvert that degenerated into the gully erosion, he said, early 1994 the sole administrator then, in the person of the present People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Kaduna state chairman, Mr. Felix Hassan Hyat was the one that constructed the convert and since then the erosion has been digging it, several

government has come and gone, they keep taking the measurement of the place, promising that they will come back to construct it.

“So we have been going to Kaduna and Local government secretariats and nothing have been done up till this moment.

“Even the former sole administrator of Kachia Local Government, Hajia Zula Jafiru came here and wanted to award the contract but there was shortage of finance, she has actually put in some effort.

“You can see these two houses, you cannot pass here during raining season, and some of the houses here will not survive during the raining season.

“One of the major reason why people are still living here is that they don’t have an alternative place to live, some of the people living here are retirees, they are not financially buoyant to leave the place and go to another place” He lamented.

“Another reason why we are still living here is the promises and assurance from the Federal, State government and our Local government that government will soon repair.

Buhari Garba and others were unanimous in calling for solution to the their community.
