Nigeria’s counter-terrorism campaign has once again crossed borders not in troops, but in intelligence and coordination as Abuja confirmed that structured security cooperation with the United States has translated into precision air strikes against terrorist targets in the North West.

In a statement issued Friday by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed that the latest strikes were the outcome of sustained intelligence sharing and strategic collaboration with international partners, particularly the United States, aimed at degrading terrorist networks operating within Nigeria’s territory.

The confirmation follows growing concern over the evolving nature of violent extremism in the region and signals that Nigeria is deepening the use of bilateral security partnerships to confront threats that are increasingly transnational in character.

According to the ministry, the cooperation is rooted in established international practice and long-standing bilateral understandings.

It includes intelligence exchange, strategic coordination and other support mechanisms, all conducted within the bounds of international law and with full respect for Nigeria’s sovereignty.

Officials stressed that the strikes were not ad-hoc actions but part of a broader, carefully coordinated counter-terrorism framework designed to weaken extremist groups while avoiding harm to civilian populations.

At the core of Abuja’s message was a clear red line: the protection of civilians.

The government reiterated that all counter-terrorism operations are guided by the need to safeguard lives, preserve national unity and uphold the rights and dignity of citizens, regardless of religion or ethnicity.

“Terrorist violence in any form remains an affront to Nigeria’s values and to international peace and security,” the ministry stated, noting that attacks on Christians, Muslims or any other community are equally unacceptable.

Beyond kinetic action, the Federal Government said its strategy remains multi-layered.

Nigeria continues to work with partners to disrupt terrorist financing, dismantle logistics networks and prevent cross-border movements of fighters, while simultaneously strengthening domestic security institutions and intelligence capacity.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs added that diplomatic and security engagements with partners are ongoing and will remain central to Nigeria’s counter-terrorism posture.

It pledged to keep the public informed through official channels as developments unfold.

As terrorist threats grow more networked and mobile, Abuja’s latest confirmation underscores a strategic reality: Nigeria’s fight against extremism is increasingly being waged through intelligence alliances as much as through boots and bombs.
