The National President of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD) Ms. Ekaete Judith Umoh has present an award of Excellence to President Muhammadu Buhari and the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouk.
Presenting the award on behalf of all PWDs in Nigeria at the inauguration of the Governing Board of the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities at the SGF hall federal secretariat office on Wednesday, Ms Ekaete Judith said the award is for signing the Disability Bill into Law and the recent establishment of the Disability Commission.
She thanked President Buhari for ending 18 years of struggle by signing the disability law and employed all PWDs in Nigeria to take advantage of disability law and its privileges to further their rights and development.
The JONAPWD President enjoined the Disability community to work together with the Government, saying the implementation of the law will not be an overnight process.
Responding to the award on behalf of President Buhari Hajiya Sadiya thanked the JONAPWD President for the show of gratitude and appreciation for their passion on the growth of the right of Persons with disability in Nigeria.
She promised that the Ministry will continue to support the growth of the newly created commission to further the rights and development of Persons with Disabilities.
