The Ministry of Defence has moved to tighten safety protocols following the September 21st explosion at the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON), Kaduna, which rattled the nation’s military-industrial hub.

On Thursday, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Dr. Sunday Attah, visited the blast site, calling for a full-scale review of the incident to prevent future tragedies.

“This unfortunate explosion must not be allowed to reoccur. We are committed to strengthening safety procedures and ensuring that such lapses are eliminated,” Attah declared during his inspection.

While acknowledging the psychological toll of the incident, Attah urged DICON staff to remain committed to their duties and not be discouraged.

At the briefing, DICON’s Director-General, Major General B.I. Alaya, assured that the situation was under control and operations would continue within established safety protocols.

“DICON remains steadfast in its mandate to produce for the Armed Forces, and we are ensuring strict compliance with operational standards,” Alaya affirmed.

The Defence Ministry has hinted at a comprehensive safety audit of ordnance handling and munitions storage, as public concern mounts over industrial safety at one of Nigeria’s most critical defence institutions.

Dr. Attah was accompanied by officials from the ministry during the inspection tour.
