Again, Kaduna Court remands Journalist

 A Kaduna State High Court has ordered the remand of the former Kaduna Correspondent of Vanguard Newspapers, Mr. Luka Binniyat at the Kaduna Maximum Prison over allegation of false publication brought before it by the Kaduna State Government, (KDSG).

Mr. Binniyat who has been on medication, walked into the court room on crutches having sustained injuries from a domestic accident.

Justice Bashir Sukola of Court 10 ordered the remand of the Journalist in spite of appeals from his Counsel, Barr. James Kanyip.

Justice Sukola said that Mr. Binniyat should be remanded in Prison custody till 20th July,  2017 for ruling on the application of bail filed by his Counsel.

Recall that the KDSG, had dragged Mr. Binniyat to court on a two count charge over a publication in the Vanguard Newspaper of alleged killings of five students of the College of Education, Gidan-Waya published on 22nd January, 2017.

Mr. Binniyat is being charged for Public Incitement and Injurious Falsehood under Sections 114 and 393 of the Penal Code law of Kaduna State respectively.

The Journalist however pleaded not guilty to the charges and the case adjourned to 20th July , 2017 for ruling on the bail application.
