President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has charged nations and families to deliberately look back, interrogate their history and draw lessons that would guarantee a stronger and more stable future.

The President gave the charge at the funeral service of late Chief Moses Adegbite, father of the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission, Bishop Prof. Stephen Adegbite, held in Fiditi, Oyo State, on Thursday, January 30, 2026.

Speaking through the Minister of Power, Mr. Adebayo Adelabu, President Tinubu said societies that fail to learn from their past mistakes risk repeating them, stressing that meaningful progress is impossible without historical reflection.

According to him, both families and nations must constantly evaluate their journeys, correct past errors and build deliberately on the lessons learned.

The President described the late Chief Moses Adegbite as a man who lived a life of impact and integrity, noting that his personal history offered valuable lessons worthy of study and emulation.

“He lived a good and fulfilled life. There is a need to study his life, learn from his experiences and even from his mistakes,” the President said.

Tinubu added that because the deceased lived honorably and served humanity selflessly, he believed his soul would find peaceful rest in the bosom of the Lord.

He prayed that God would grant the Adegbite family the strength and fortitude to bear the loss of their patriarch.

Using the solemn gathering as a moment of national reflection, the President appealed to Nigerians to continue praying for the success of his administration.

He acknowledged that some of the people-oriented reforms being implemented by his government were painful, but insisted they were necessary sacrifices for long-term national recovery.

“These programmes may be tough now, but there will be light at the end of the tunnel,” Tinubu assured.

The President’s representative was accompanied by the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof. Joseph Utsev, as well as the Permanent Secretaries of the Ministries of Power and Water Resources and Sanitation.

Chief Moses Adegbite, a respected philanthropist, community leader and humanitarian, passed away on November 14, 2025, after a brief illness at the age of 86.

His funeral activities began on January 29 with a wake at his residence in Fiditi, drawing dignitaries from within and outside Nigeria.

After the funeral service, his remains were laid to rest at the Eternal Rest Private Cemetery, bringing to a close the final rites of a man widely remembered for service, compassion and leadership.
