The Training of Supervisory Presiding Officers (SPOs) on Polling and Counting Procedures in Preparation for Magama Rijau FC Niger State Bye Election has commenced.
The 2 day Training is organized by the Electoral Institute with the objective that at the end of the training, participants should demonstrate the ability to organize and conduct training on Polling and Counting and effectively perform the electoral functions of SPOs in line with the First Supplementary Guidelines and Regulations to Elections and the INEC Policy on Conducting Elections in the Context of COVID -19 Pandemic.
The Training was declared opened by the Resident Electoral Commissioner, INEC Niger State, Prof. Sam Egwu and made available to newsmen in a press statement in Abuja on Wednesday.
It said in his remarks, the REC urged the participants not to view the training as familiar as there’s always something new to learn.
He reiterated that the participants should put up the right attitude and proper conduct not only during the training but also in the course of conducting the election.
The Director General TEI, Dr. Sa’ad Umar Idris in his goodwill message welcomed participants and advised them to be non partisan in the discharge of their duties.
He charged participants to ask questions where necessary, highlighting the importance of training to ensure quality step down of the training for Presiding Officers (POs) and Assistant Presiding Officers (APOs).
The participants should adhered to the PTF/NCDC guidelines by ensuring social distancing in sitting arrangements, wearing of face masks and use of Hand sanitizer during the training where necessary.
The Training will highlight among others; the Voters Code of Conduct for Elections during the COVID-19 Pandemic as well as the Mock practice of the Revised Accreditation Process which involves the use of the Smart Card Reader (SCRs) for accreditation of Voters and the use of Z-PAD in the Upload of Polling Unit Results (scanned form EC 8A) on Portal for Public View.
