Nigeria’s Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Mohammed Matawalle, CON, last Saturday, visited the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) facility in Kaduna after an ordnance explosion shook the military production hub.
The Minister, who described the incident as an accident, assured Nigerians that the situation is under control and that DICON’s operations remain intact.
Briefings from experts revealed that the blast occurred during the destruction of expired and hazardous military materials, including ammonium nitrate, primer caps, and propellants.
Safety protocols, officials insisted, were being followed at the time.
Matawalle emphasized that a full-scale investigation will be launched to uncover the exact cause and establish measures to prevent future occurrences.
“The welfare of affected personnel and their families will be prioritised, and adequate support will be provided,” he pledged.
The incident has heightened concerns over safety procedures at military production sites, with the ministry vowing transparency and accountability as inquiries begin.
