Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, has thrown his weight behind the Nigerian Army’s intensified security push under the leadership of Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, describing the renewed momentum as a “critical turning point” in the battle to reclaim communities threatened by violent crime.

Mbah made the remarks during a high-level interface with senior Army commanders in Enugu, where he commended the Service for what he called a “disciplined, intelligence-led and mission-focused shift” since Shaibu assumed command.

According to the governor, the state has already begun to feel the impact of the Army’s recalibrated strategies marked by rapid deployments, coordinated field intelligence and sharper operational responses to emerging threats.

He noted that Enugu, like many states navigating complex security pressures, relies heavily on the professionalism and resilience of the military to keep its economic ambitions on track.

“The Nigerian Army under General Shaibu has shown purpose, clarity and renewed vigour,” Mbah said. “What we are seeing today is not just security activity but security leadership—methodical, proactive and grounded in the protection of our people.”

The Governor praised the Army’s recent operations, which have disrupted criminal hideouts, strengthened rural security coverage and enhanced inter-agency coordination across the state.

He described the renewed energy as a welcome shift from “reaction to domination,” adding that the security gains have boosted investor confidence and accelerated the government’s development agenda.

Senior officers accompanying the Chief of Army Staff outlined ongoing plans to deepen community engagement, expand surveillance networks and reinforce troop presence in high-risk corridors.

They also reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to working closely with the state government to dismantle criminal networks and secure key infrastructure.

Mbah pledged sustained support for military operations, including logistics, operational synergy and civil-military cooperation initiatives aimed at improving trust between local communities and security forces.

“Enugu is aligning its security investments with the Army’s new operational philosophy,” he said. “We are fully committed to ensuring that soldiers who defend our people have every resource they need to execute their duty effectively.”

The Governor’s commendation comes as the Nigerian Army, under General Shaibu, drives a nationwide overhaul of its operational posture shifting toward faster response cycles, improved battlefield intelligence, and a people-centred approach to internal security.

With both state and military authorities aligned, officials say the momentum signals a new era of coordinated security action that could significantly weaken criminal networks and reinforce stability across Enugu and the wider South-East region.
