The Anambra State Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, at Umunze, Orumba South, Local Government Area, rescued a mentally challenged nursing mother and her infant daughter from the streets.
The rescue followed a call placed to the Commissioner, Lady Ndidi Mezue, with her counterpart in the Ministry of Housing, Architect Michael Okonkwo from the area.
Lady Mezue dispatched a team of social workers to effect the rescue of the middle aged woman who attracted public sympathy as a result of her pitiable condition.
According to the Commissioner, as a mother, she felt pity when she got
the call and immediately, dispatched a team to rescue the woman and
her innocent daughter.
She said they have been cleaned up and relocated to a government owned
facility for proper care and rehabilitation.
