The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has graduated a new cohort of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) operators, marking a significant step in its ongoing efforts to enhance intelligence gathering and precision operations in support of national security.

The graduation ceremony, held at the 233 Wing Hangar in Kaduna on Thursday, celebrated the successful completion of Operational Conversion Training Course 3/2024.

The course is part of the NAF’s broader strategy to strengthen Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities amid persistent insurgency and internal security challenges.

Representing the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, at the ceremony was Air Vice Marshal Patrick Obeya, Air Officer Commanding Tactical Air Command.

In his remarks, Obeya described the event as a strategic milestone in the nation’s fight against asymmetric threats.

“This is not just a ceremony; it is a reaffirmation of our resolve to dominate the battlespace through precision ISR and coordinated joint operations,” Air Marshal Abubakar said in a message delivered by Obeya.

“These young men and women are now key players in our mission to secure Nigeria from the skies.”

The CAS underscored the importance of developing a highly skilled and mission-ready force, commending the graduands for their dedication and resilience during the rigorous training program.

He urged them to remain professional, focused, and committed to delivering actionable intelligence to support joint military operations.

Air Marshal Abubakar also called on the newly qualified UAV operators to embrace innovation and continuous learning in a rapidly evolving field.

“Success in modern conflict requires not just flying skills, but the ability to fuse data, think strategically, and act decisively,” he noted, highlighting the need for collaboration across engineering, intelligence, and aircrew units.

As security threats become increasingly complex, the NAF’s investment in UAV technology signals a future-oriented approach to warfare leveraging cutting-edge systems and skilled personnel to maintain air superiority and safeguard national sovereignty.

The event was attended by senior military officials, families, and well-wishers, who gathered to celebrate what the CAS called “a crucial investment in national security.”

The graduation reinforces the NAF’s commitment to deploying technology and talent in the defence of the nation.
