The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) and the Nigerian Communications Satellite (NIGCOMSAT) Limited have agreed to deepen strategic collaboration aimed at enhancing national security, safeguarding technological sovereignty, and boosting operational sustainability.
The agreement was reached during a courtesy visit by NIGCOMSAT Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Jane Egerton-Idehen, to the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, at NAF Headquarters in Abuja on Thursday.
According to a statement by NAF’s Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame and made available to newsmen in Abuja, discussions focused on leveraging NIGCOMSAT’s satellite technology to improve secure communications, real-time intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance for the Air Force.
Air Marshal Abubakar emphasised the importance of home-grown technological solutions to meet evolving defence needs.
“We must continually seek innovative ways to improve our capabilities and reduce reliance on foreign systems. Strategic collaboration with institutions like NIGCOMSAT is essential for secure communication and real-time situational awareness across our theatres of operation,” he said.
In her remarks, Mrs. Egerton-Idehen praised the NAF’s forward-thinking approach and pledged NIGCOMSAT’s support in deploying secure, mission-specific satellite services.
“This partnership is not only timely but critical in strengthening Nigeria’s digital defence infrastructure,” she stated.
The renewed cooperation is expected to strengthen inter-agency synergy, harness indigenous technology, and enhance Nigeria’s air defence and surveillance capabilities.
