The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has dealt a decisive blow to insurgent groups in Borno State, killing at least 592 terrorists and destroying 372 enemy assets in just eight months, a record that already surpasses the total operational results achieved in 2024.

Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, disclosed the figures on Tuesday during a courtesy visit to Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, in Maiduguri.

He described the current tempo of operations as “faster, sharper, and more surgical,” crediting the gains to upgraded aircraft, precision night-strike capabilities, and sustained intelligence-driven missions.

According to the CAS, NAF aircraft have carried out 798 combat sorties, logging over 1,500 flight hours under the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai.

These missions, he informed, have destroyed 206 technical vehicles and 166 logistics hubs, crippling insurgent mobility and supply chains.

“We are taking out high-value targets, dismantling their logistics, and hunting down every cell that threatens the peace of the North-East,” Air Marshal Abubakar said.

From Gonori to Rann, Dikwa to Damboa, Azir to Mallam Fatori, NAF’s day-and-night operations have pounded terrorist strongholds with precision.

The CAS said the offensive has been bolstered by A-29 Super Tucano aircraft, Mi-171 helicopters for medical evacuation and logistics, and enhanced surveillance platforms for 24/7 target tracking.

A newly acquired Mi-35 gunship is also set to provide intensified close-air support for ground forces.

The CAS commended the state government’s “Borno Model”, a blend of community engagement and decisive military action as a key factor in turning the tide against insurgency.

“We are winning this war in the air, on the ground, and in the hearts of the people,” he declared.

Governor Zulum in his response hailed the NAF’s role in degrading terrorist capabilities and safeguarding communities.

“The Nigerian Air Force has been a steadfast partner in our fight against insurgency. Your operations have saved countless lives and allowed our communities to begin rebuilding,” he said, affirming the people of Borno’s support for the military.

Air Marshal Abubakar also inspected facilities at the NAF Base in Maiduguri, addressing air and ground crews and urging them to sustain their relentless efforts.

He was briefed on ongoing operations, underscoring NAF’s commitment to national defense through air power, intelligence, and strategic partnerships.
