A new chapter opened on Tuesday at the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy (FMCIDE) as Engr. Nadungu Gagare formally assumed duty as Permanent Secretary, declaring that Nigeria’s digital future hinges on the Ministry’s capacity to deliver on its mandate with urgency, competence and innovation.

Engr. Gagare took over from Mr. Rafiu Adeladan following an official handover ceremony held at the Ministry’s conference room, Federal Secretariat Complex, Phase 1, Abuja, after his redeployment by the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation.

In his first address to management and staff, the new Permanent Secretary delivered a message that underscored the weight of national expectations.

“The Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu depends greatly on how effectively we deepen digital inclusion, strengthen ICT infrastructure, grow the innovation ecosystem, protect our cyberspace and unlock opportunities for young Nigerians,” he said.

He described the Ministry as a critical engine powering Nigeria’s economic competitiveness, innovation capacity and digital sovereignty.

Gagare warned that millions of citizens and institutions are counting on the Ministry, noting that:

Young innovators depend on supportive policies to scale solutions

Rural communities await affordable connectivity

MDAs and the private sector rely on secure and reliable digital infrastructure

“Nigeria is counting on us,” he declared, pledging to pursue stability, continuity and renewed vigour in advancing the nation’s digital transformation.

In his farewell remarks, outgoing Permanent Secretary Mr. Rafiu Adeladan welcomed his successor and applauded the Ministry’s management team for their dedication, professionalism and support throughout his tenure.

He urged them to extend the same cooperation and commitment to Engr. Gagare, describing teamwork as the backbone of every successful public-sector institution.

The ceremony, witnessed by senior officials, aides and staff of the Ministry, signalled a smooth transition in one of the Federal Government’s most strategic ministries one tasked with shaping Nigeria’s technological leap into the future.

With the baton now in Engr. Gagare’s hands, expectations are high as the Ministry deepens its role in driving innovation, strengthening cyber resilience and expanding digital access nationwide.
