The Thirty six State Governors of the Federation has of Thursday bemeaoned over the increasing level of hardship with Nigerians across the country and appreciated the reforms being carried out by the President Tinubu to curtail the situation.
Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State who made this known in a communique read to journalists shortly after the Nigeria Governor’s Forum (NGF) was of the opinion that it was the governor’s prayer that “as soon as possible the relief would come to leverage on the benefits of the reforms and better the general.
He maintained that the removal of the fuel subsidy has intensified economic difficulties, as rising petroleum prices have driven up the costs of goods and services, making it harder for many Nigerians to afford basic necessities.
According to him, the Nigerian Governors Forum are also committed to supporting President Tinubu to ensure that the interests of the people are properly protected.
The Governors also expressed commitment to the promotion of unity and peace in the country, noting that anything that will bring or cause disunity among the people, the citizens should be discouraged
“We sympathize with our people. We know that there is hardship in the country. We also appreciate the reforms being carried out by the President.” The communique stressed.
“We hope that relief is on the horizon. We sympathise with our people and acknowledge the hardship across the country. We appreciate the President’s ongoing reforms, and our hope is that the awaited relief arrives soon so we can fully realise the benefits of these reforms and work towards a better Nigeria” he said.
On the NNPC, the Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd briefed the NGF on the total subsidy removal, the challenges facing the corporation, and plans to alleviate the sufferings of the people, occasioned by the increase in pump prices.
“We also met with the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Limited, Mele Kyari, who briefed us on the complete subsidy removal, the challenges the corporation faces, and his plans to alleviate the suffering caused by rising pump prices.
“Governors acknowledged the importance of these measures in securing Nigeria’s energy resources and improving the efficiency of NNPC’s production and supply chain.
Also the new Acting Director General of the Director General of the Department of Security Services (DSS) Adeola Ajayi briefed the Forum on the new strategies to stop the rate of insecurity and how to fight cases of kidnapping, banditry, and activities of unknown gunmen.
According to him, DSS is also committed to giving NGF the support and to close rank for proper and a better synergy to ensure that Nigeria is secure, the environment is safe.
Governor Uzodinma therefore assured that under the renewed hope agenda of President Tinubu, supported by both the national government and all, there will be no better security than being united, working together as a people, and believing in the country.
