The Nigerian Army’s 6 Division has stepped up its efforts to combat oil theft and related crimes in the Niger Delta region. Between April 21 and 27, 2025, troops, in collaboration with other security agencies, arrested 23 suspected oil thieves, dismantled 13 artisanal refineries, and seized over 180,000 litres of stolen oil products.
This was contained in a press statement made available to newsmen in Abuja on Sunday by the Acting Deputy Director, 6 Division Army Public Relations Lt. Col. Danjuma Jonah Danjuma.
According to him, some notable operations include:
– In Rivers State, troops recovered over 45,000 litres of illegally refined diesel and destroyed an active refining site, seizing an 800-metre-long hose and pumping machine.
– In Peterside Community, Bonny Local Government Area, troops uncovered an illegal refining site and recovered stolen products.
– In Akwa Ibom State, troops intercepted two tanker trucks carrying nearly 80,000 litres of stolen oil products, arresting two suspects and detecting fake waybill papers.
– In Bayelsa State, troops discovered an illegal refining site, recovering stolen crude and diesel, and arresting six suspected oil thieves.
The General Officer Commanding, 6 Division urged troops to maintain the pressure on economic sabotage and called on the public to provide credible information to aid security efforts.
