As Nigeria marks its 65th Independence Anniversary, the Deputy President of the Senate (DSP), Senator Barau Jibrin, has called on citizens to close ranks, remain united, and throw their weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration in its drive to deliver prosperity under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir and made available to news on Tuesday in Abuja, Senator Barau said the sacrifices of Nigeria’s founding fathers must serve as a reminder of the enduring ideals of unity, peace, justice, and tolerance.
“Fellow Nigerians, happy Independence Day. At 65, yes, we face challenges, but we will overcome them. Our Republic will emerge stronger from its present trials, by God’s grace,” Barau said.
The DSP commended the strides made under Tinubu, noting that economic reforms are beginning to show results while the nation’s security has “considerably improved” over the past two years.
He urged Nigerians to stand firm behind the President as he implements bold policies designed to reset the nation’s trajectory, stressing that only collective resolve can unlock the country’s full potential.
Barau, who also serves as First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, pledged that the legislature will continue to back the executive with necessary laws to fast-track reforms and drive development.
“As we celebrate, let us support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to actualise his programmes. He has good intentions for the country. We will get it right,” he said.
Nigeria will mark the anniversary on Wednesday, October 1st, declared a national public holiday by the Federal Government.
