Executive Chairman of Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, Alhaji Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado has observed that Nigeria is facing systematic corruption where by all theater of social lives are being paraded by corruption.

He described corruption as an elite oriented crime, saying that is why it is difficult to prosecute crime of corruption but easy to jail poor person that stole N200.

Alhaji Rimingado who is also a Legal Practitioner stated this in Kaduna Friday during a two-day Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Sensitization Retreat for Kano State Local Government Officials.

According to him, because of the systematic corruption, Kano State has to shift from accusatorial system of criminal justices in team of corrupt practices to inquisitorial system.

The Chairman lamented that the law is always in favour of the accused which is why the Commission find it difficult to establish a case, adding that the Commission has received 4,000 cases across Kano State in 2018 and it is doing all it can to prosecute cases diligently.

He was of the opinion that corruption cannot be defeated in Nigeria if the battle is left for federal agencies like the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Independent Corrupt Practices and others related agencies.

Alhaji Rimingado said, until the various states of the federation embrace and domesticate the fight against corruption like Kano state has done, Nigeria cannot win the war.

Declaring the Retreat open, the Commissioner, Ministry for Local Government, Kano State, Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo pointed out that the Retreat is to sensitized the participants to get them well-informed on the provisions of the Commission but most importantly to be honesty and accountable in the public service.

According to him, it is also to provide a qualitative service delivery to the people, especially in the rural areas of Kano through training and well informed executives of local government and on how best to discharge their responsibilities in effective manner.
