In a bold statement of commitment to regional security and African cooperation, Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, H.E. Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has lauded the Namibian Command and Staff College for its pivotal role in advancing defence education and collaboration across the continent.
The Minister made the announcement during a high-profile meeting with a 26-member delegation from the College, led by Brigadier Benhard Erastus, Commandant of the College, as part of their study tour to Nigeria.
Speaking at his office in Abuja, Minister Badaru reaffirmed Nigeria’s unwavering support for deepening continental peace and security, emphasizing the country’s readiness to share military expertise and foster stronger partnerships with Namibia and other African nations.
He pointed to Nigeria’s historic role in Africa’s liberation struggles, underscoring that the country’s commitment to defence cooperation remains resolute in pursuit of regional stability.
Highlighting the importance of African unity in the face of external threats, Minister Badaru warned that only through solidarity could the continent safeguard its interests from foreign powers intent on sowing division.
“Together, we must protect the peace and security we’ve fought so hard for,” he declared.
Brigadier Erastus, in his address, expressed gratitude to the Nigerian government for the warm welcome and invaluable insights into the country’s defence policy, civil-military relations, and regional security operations.
He revealed that Namibia selected Nigeria for this tour due to its recognized leadership in the region, particularly in shaping sustainable security practices that align with long-term economic development.
The delegation’s visit included an in-depth presentation on the Ministry of Defence’s operational architecture, followed by an engaging discussion on the broader goals of African defence cooperation.
In a gesture of appreciation, the Namibian delegation presented a prestigious plaque to the Ministry of Defence, acknowledging Nigeria’s leadership role in African security.
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to strengthening defence ties and ensuring that Africa remains united and resilient in the face of growing global challenges.
Nigeria’s proactive stance in supporting regional defence cooperation signals a new chapter in its strategic leadership role within the African Union, as it continues to position itself as a key player in ensuring the continent’s security and stability.
