Nigeria: Security Bastardly Politicizes to Scope of Culture, Religion, Ethnicity, Says CAMPAN President

The National President of Catholic Media Practitioners of Nigeria (CAMPAN), Mr. Patrick Osu has observed that the issue of security situation in Nigeria has been bastardly politicized to the extent of culture, religion and ethnicity.

The President made the observation in his speech delivered at the Opening of Three-Day 2018 Eighth Regional Conference of Catholic Media Practitioners of Nigeria with the Theme: “A New Media Age and National Security at Saint Theresa’s Catholic Church, Madalla, Minna, Niger State.

Mr. Patrick Osu lamented that the politic office holders in-charge of Nigeria must search their conscience and face the truth as well as check the infiltration of hoodlums from neighboring countries to halt all manners of criminality and murders in the country.

This, he said, became imperative due loads of bloodshed, adding that Nigeria is still not close to true democracy in view of the political immaturity and instability or strengthening democracy rule by encouraging kidnapping, injustice and murder.

“Politicians in-charge of this Nation must search their conscience and face the truth as well as check the infiltration of hoodlums from our neighboring countries to halt all manner of criminality and murder in Nigeria, because of too many bloodshed.

“We are still not close to true democracy in view of our political immunity and instability. We cannot strengthen democracy rule by encouraging kidnapping, injustice and murder.

“We are all aware of the situation in Nigeria and the issue of security has been bastardly politicized to the extent of culture, religion and ethnicity” he stressed.

The CAMPAN National President was of the opinion that the Media Practitioners will not support the ugly trend but only continue to promote unity and co-operation among Nigerians, trade the path of peace, above all must be vigilant and prayerful.

According to him, because the advent of internet and social media had change the world to digital age and added value to the world of communication, saying as a respected and professional body, CAMPAN must stand firm and take responsibility for the dissemination of correct and undiluted news and information.

“The Theme for this Conference “A New Media Age and National Security” was chosen to reflect the present situation in our Nation, Nigeria.

“It is indeed a new media age, because the advent of internet and social media had change the world to digital age and added value to the world of communication for which we are directly beneficiaries as a respected and professional body, we must stand firm and take responsibility for the dissemination of correct and undiluted news and information.

This however bring to mind His Holiness, Pope Francis message to 2018 World Communication Day celebration, that the “Truth will set you free”. He reminds the Media that communication is God’s plan for us and a essential way to fellowship” Mr. Osu ended.
