Nigeria Takes Center Stage: Dr. Bosun Tijani Elected ITU Vice Chair, Leading Global Digital Transformation

Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, has been elected Vice Chair of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) Council for 2025.

According to Eunice Akro, the
Deputy Director/Head of Press and Public Relations Unit in a press statement made available to newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday, the achievement is a testament to Nigeria’s commitment to digital transformation and inclusive innovation.

She informed that the election, held in Geneva, Switzerland, during the ongoing ITU Conference, marks a significant milestone for Nigeria.

The ITU, a specialized United Nations agency, is responsible for information and communication technologies (ICTs) and aimed to connect the world through innovative, inclusive, and sustainable digital solutions.

Dr. Tijani expressed his delight, stating, “Nigeria remains committed to supporting the ITU’s collective mission, prioritizing resilient and sustainable digital infrastructures, and ensuring timely access to meaningful connectivity for all communities, especially the underserved.

With this leadership position, Nigeria is poised to shape the future of digital development in Africa and beyond.

Dr. Tijani appreciated the ITU Secretary General, Ms. Doreen Bogdan-Martin, and member states for the trust placed in him.
