The Nigerian Army’s 82 Division has opened an investigation into an alleged incident involving its personnel and civilians along the Nsukka–Igbo Eze South Road in Enugu State.
The development follows the circulation of a social media video reportedly showing an encounter between soldiers deployed in Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area and members of the public during a routine security check.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for 82 Division, Lt. Col. Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni, said the Army takes all allegations of misconduct seriously and has instituted a thorough inquiry to establish the facts.
“The outcome will be made public, and if found guilty, the personnel will face appropriate disciplinary action in line with military regulations,” Ayeni stated.
He assured that the Division remains committed to professionalism, the Rules of Engagement, and its Code of Conduct, adding that transparency and accountability are central to its operations.
Ayeni also expressed appreciation to members of the public and the media for their vigilance in drawing attention to the matter, while reaffirming the Army’s commitment to fostering positive civil-military relations.
