Nigerians in Iran Safe: Ministry of Foreign Affairs Quashes Abandonment Rumors

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA ) has debunked reports that the Nigerian Embassy in Tehran, Iran, has abandoned Nigerian nationals and departed the country.

According to Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, the Spokesperson, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja in a press statement made available to newsmen on Saturday affirmed that the Embassy remained operational and committed to the welfare and safety of Nigerian nationals in Iran, despite disruptions caused by consistent bombing in Tehran.

According to the statement, due to the crisis, Embassy staff are working remotely, and normal work schedules have been disrupted.

He said the Embassy is actively engaging with the Government of Armenia to facilitate the evacuation of Nigerians via Yerevan.

The MFA opined that the Nigerians in Iran can also reach out to designated community coordinators in three locations for assistance.

The Embassy advises Nigerian nationals to download the Iranian local messaging app, eitaa, and join the Nigerian group for regular updates.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs remained vigilant and committed to safeguarding the interests of Nigerians worldwide.
