ABUJA — The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has issued a public advisory outlining critical guidelines for accessing and managing self-service modification accounts linked to the National Identification Number (NIN).

In a statement released Thursday by Dr. Kayode Adegoke, Head of the Commission’s Corporate Communications Unit, NIMC urged applicants to adhere strictly to the rules governing the self-service modification portal to ensure seamless access and data security.

According to the advisory, self-service accounts are uniquely tied to the browser and device used during initial registration. This means users must access the portal using the exact same browser and device; otherwise, they may encounter access issues.

The Commission also warned users against clearing their browser cache, as doing so may reset the browser and lock the account. If an account becomes locked, users will be required to initiate an unlinking process.

Additionally, NIMC has set a maximum of five (5) unlock attempts per locked account. Once this limit is exceeded, no further unlock requests will be entertained.

“These measures are designed to protect users’ identities and maintain the integrity of the self-service portal,” the statement read.

NIMC called on all users to follow the guidelines carefully to avoid disruptions, urging the public to prioritize the security of their personal data while engaging with the portal.

For assistance or inquiries, users are encouraged to reach out via the Commission’s customer support email: nimccustomercare@nimc.gov.ng.
