The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has announced the successful migration of all telecommunications operators in Nigeria to its newly upgraded National Identification Number (NIN) verification platform, NINAuth, a move aimed at bolstering digital identity security, streamlining verification services, and enhancing user experience nationwide.
This landmark development, unveiled in a press statement signed by Dr. Kayode Adegoke, Head of Corporate Communications at NIMC, marks a significant stride in the Commission’s push to put control of digital identity data directly into the hands of Nigerians.
According to the Commission in a press statement made available to newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday by Dr. Kayode Adegoke, the Head Corporate Communications of NIMC, the NINAuth platform, developed and managed in-house by NIMC’s Information Technology/Identity Database Department (IT/IDD), provides secure, seamless, and efficient NIN verification services to telecom subscribers and service providers alike.
“The migration of all telecom firms to NINAuth has been completed successfully, and uninterrupted verification services are now being provided,” confirmed Engr. Lanre Yusuf, Director of IT/IDD at NIMC.
The new NINAuth platform is designed to support real-time identity verification while ensuring enhanced data privacy and protection, giving individuals greater control over their personal information.
The solution also provides a convenient single sign-on interface for accessing a variety of services that rely on identity authentication.
NIMC reiterated that the Verification and Authentication Service platforms are fully operational and accessible for legitimate identity-related transactions.
However, the Commission emphasized that any issues relating to new SIM registration, SIM swap, SIM migration, welcome-back SIMs, or other telecom-specific concerns should be directed to the respective telecommunications companies for immediate resolution.
“The NINAuth migration aligns with our broader commitment to delivering secure and user-friendly digital identity solutions,” the statement added.
The Commission’s successful implementation of this upgrade underscores its continued efforts to strengthen the integrity of Nigeria’s digital identity ecosystem and to support the broader goals of national security, data sovereignty, and digital service delivery.
