Ekiti’s political landscape has been thrown into overdrive as a fiery APC aspirant, Atinuke Oluremi Omolayo declared that nothing will stop her from smashing the State’s age-long political barrier to become its first-ever female governor.
“Since the creation of Ekiti, there has never been a female governor. By the grace of God, I will be the first. I have 100% confidence I’ll clinch the ticket,” Atinuke thundered after her screening.
While pledging loyalty to party supremacy shortly after being screened by the APC Ekiti State Governorship Screening Committee on Tuesday, Atinuke made it clear she will abide by whatever primary mode the APC adopts, direct, indirect, or consensus.
Yet she dropped a bombshell: the only person she would ever step down for is Governor Biodun Oyebanji, whom she hailed as her leader.
“If the party opts for consensus and I am not chosen, I will step down. But let me be clear, I can only step down for Governor Oyebanji. For any other person, no way,” she stated.
Atinuke acknowledged Oyebanji’s achievements but insisted that “a woman can do more and better.”
She also urged women across Nigeria to storm the political space, hailing the “mother of the nation” for motivating female participation.
As October 27 APC primaries loom, her declaration has jolted the Ekiti political class, sparking fierce debates on whether 2026 will finally crown a woman governor in the Fountain of Knowledge.
