No to Blackmail: FCT NUJ Chairman Reiterates Commitment to Ethical Standards

The Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike has affirmed that the NUJ letterhead will not be used to blackmail anyone or Association Just to stand out.

Comrade Grace gave the affirmation in her speech when the Chairman, Diplomatic Correspondents Association of Nigeria (DICAN), Comrade Idehai Frederick led a delegation to pay her courtesy visit to mark a milestone for both organisations in fostering unity and promoting a positive image of Nigeria journalists.

According to her, if using NUJ FCT Letterheads to blackmail people in doing wrong things was a norm or practice during the last administration would no longer be business as usual in her administration.

She promised that the New elected Executive under her leadership would ensure to stop the norm, informing that any Letterheads of NUJ going out anywhere would be a confirmed credible person or Association in promoting the image of the Union and the professionalism.

Comrade Grace pointed out that the onions are in journalists to report accurately, positively to make NUJ FCT the envy of many.

In collaboration, the NUJ FCT Chairman emphasised the importance of transparency, accountability, and collaboration in achieving shared goals among media professionals.

She informed that active participation, transparency, and accountability remain key to the success of any association, saying Diplomatic Correspondence Association of Nigeria has a critical role to play in promoting a positive image of the Union, Nigeria and its people.

She mentioned that by upholding the values of collaboration, accountability, and transparency, both can achieve great things and make a lasting impact on the country and its people.

“As we move forward, it is essential that we continue to work together, sharing our knowledge, expertise, and resources to achieve our goals. By doing so, we can create a brighter future for the Union and its people.

“We must lead by example, ensuring our actions reflect the values of integrity and collaboration. Together, we can create a stronger union and a better Nigeria.

“As DICAN leaders, it is essential to recognize the value of collaboration and accountability in achieving our goals.

“The Union’s willingness to collaborate with other organizations is critical, with a focus on mutual benefit and promoting the image of Union.

“Being a member of the NUJ is not enough, but active participation, including attending congresses and paying dues is necessary to ensure one’s voice is heard.

“The introduction of DICAN
Auditors to take account of the Association’s activities and finances was a welcomed idea as a step towards ensuring accountability and transparency.

“As ambassadors of Nigeria, it is essential that we conduct ourselves in a manner that reflects positively on our Union and its people. Lead by example, demonstrate transparency, accountability by working together and upholding these values, we can achieve great things and make a positive impact on our country and its people” she noted.

Earlier in his address, Frederick Idehai, the Diva Chairman commended the NUJ FCT Chairmans leadership, describing her as a symbol of hope and progress for the Union.

He highlighted some of DICAN’s achievements such as Incorporation of DICAN and stressed the need for inclusivity in decision-making.

“The Diplomatic Correspondent Association of Nigeria has officially been Incorporated, marking a significant milestone. This new chapter brings with it a sense of responsibility and accountability, essential for any successful organization.

“Leadership is about inspiring collective action. By prioritizing transparency and building trust, we can achieve a lasting impact,” he remarked.

Both leaders agreed on the need to project NUJ FCT and DICAN
positively on the global stage while supporting initiatives that strengthen the journalism profession.

The meeting concluded with mutual commitments to explore opportunities for collaboration, particularly in areas that foster unity and national development.

“As you embark on this new journey, it’s crucial to prioritize transparency and accountability. By doing so, you’ll build trust with your constituents and create a stronger, more resilient Union.

“Your role as a leader is not just about making decisions, but also about inspiring others to work towards a common goal. By leading with integrity and transparency, you’ll create a lasting impact that will be felt for generations to come” he informed.
