The military campaign to reclaim Nigeria’s North-West from terror groups intensified sharply this week as troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY) sustained a wave of coordinated offensives that delivered fresh blows to terrorist networks operating across the region.
Between January 21 and 22, 2026, forces under the Joint Task Force North-West executed rapid, intelligence-driven operations that underscored a growing operational tempo and a clear intent to deny terrorists space, logistics and recovery time.
In one of the key engagements, troops of the 8 Division Garrison Strike Force, working alongside Department of State Services (DSS) assets, clashed with armed terrorists during a fighting patrol at Gundumi Village in Isa Local Government Area.
The encounter ended with one terrorist neutralised, while others fled into surrounding forest cover with gunshot wounds.
A sweep of the area led to the recovery of six AK-47 rifles and three motorcycles, further degrading the firepower and mobility of the group.
Hours later, the pressure escalated.
Acting on credible intelligence, troops of 1 Brigade, in coordination with the Headquarters JTF OPFY Mobile Strike Team, launched a follow-up operation into Bingi Forest, where injured fighters were reportedly receiving medical care.
What they found was not just fleeing suspects, but a critical piece of the terrorists’ survival infrastructure, a makeshift medical facility used to treat wounded combatants.
The site was destroyed, effectively cutting off a key support lifeline and reinforcing the military’s intent to target not only fighters, but the systems that sustain them.
Security analysts say the destruction of such facilities represents a strategic shift, one that disrupts recovery, morale and operational continuity within terror networks.
The back-to-back successes highlight what military authorities describe as the responsiveness, coordination and sustained momentum of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, as forces press to dismantle terrorist cells and reclaim communities long plagued by violence.
With ground forces maintaining the initiative, the operation continues to signal a clear message across the North-West: there will be no safe havens, on the battlefield or behind the lines.
As operations expand and intelligence-led strikes deepen, the military says the objective remains unchanged, to decisively degrade terrorist networks and restore peace and security across the region.
