The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has agreed to partner with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Kaduna State Council to fight the incessant crime in the state through the use of media.
Addressing the Executives of the Union during their courtesy to the NSCDC Commandant, Modu Bunu in his office in Kaduna on Wednesday, Mr. Bunu expressed content to receive them, saying their visit is timely because of the forthcoming general elections in 2019.
According to the NSCDC Commandant, 2019 would be a challenging year and the early the Command start mapping out strategy, the better for all the citizens.
“You can see that it has already started. The Herdsmen and farmers rampant clashes are the signs of what to expect. You know the whole crisis is prelude to the election otherwise, why the Fulani herdsmen and farmers clashes here and there now?
“We have to team up with you to educate the public on this particular issue. We are aware that this can only be achieved with the help of the media, but besides that my command has been up and doing in the fight against terror in the state.
“Initially, two years ago, we were confronted with armed robbery, cattle rustling along Birnin Gwari and Kaduna road, Kaduna Abuja Road but when we dislodged them, they now dissolved into the towns of Kaduna and they are people that are perpetuating the kidnapping in the state” he said.
Earlier, the NUJ Chairman, Comrade Adamu Yusufv charged the Command to liaise with the traditional rulers in the state to fish out the criminals that are terrorizing innocent citizens in the state.
He assured the Commandant that NUJ will discharge its social responsibility by partnering with them to address the insecurity in the state.
Comrade Yusuf however requested the Commandant to appear on the NUJ Platform to educate the people of the state on the security arrangements in the state.
He said the platform was created by the Council to enable politicians, Business Moguls, Opinion Leaders, public office holders to relate to the citizens.
