Barr Sunday Nwankwo the Chairman of Ikwo Local Government Area, Ebonyi State southeast Nigeria Wednesday said the Okeaku Ezza festival has brought peace among Unwuekumenyi and the opportunity to showcase their cultural heritage.
The Chairman spoke at the Grand Finale of the 2023 Okeaku Ezza held at the Ancestral Home of Ezza Ezekuna, Onueke, Ezza South LGA.
The event featured an Exchange of gifts, Cultural display.
His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru who was represented by the Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Moses Ije Odunwa urged the people to maintain the love existing among them.
Bar Nwankwo called on the people to use the festival to preach love and peace.
“On behalf of the good people of Ikwo Noyo Clan, I bring a message of love and peace to the good people of Ezza Ezekuna as you Celebrate your Okeaku Festival today.
“Okeaku Festival marks the commencement of the New Calendar year and ends the planting season especially the planting of yam which is predominantly grown by Ezza People and ushers in the consumption of new yam.
“Let us use this period of Celebration to preach love and peace among our brothers and sisters, especially Unwuekumenyi.
“As we celebrate this year’s Okeaku Festival, may the Celebration bring more fortunes to Ezza Ezekuna and unify Unwuekumenyi”.
