Oko Community Mourns: Traditional Prime Minister, Ichie Martin Ezeosim, to Be Laid to Rest Oct 9

The Oko community in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State is set to bid farewell to its revered Traditional Prime Minister, Onowu Oko, Ichie Martin Ezeosim, whose burial has been scheduled for Thursday, October 9, 2025.

The announcement of his passing at the age of 78 was jointly signed by His Royal Highness Igwe Prof. Laz Ekwueme, Eze Ijikala II, alongside his cabinet and the Oko People’s Union (OPU), and the Ezeosim family which was made available to newsmen in Abuja on Friday by Chief (Sir) Reuben Muoka

Ezeosim, the second-in-command to the Igwe of Oko, was celebrated for his remarkable contributions to the community’s growth and leadership.

The late Onowu’s final rites will begin with a Christian burial service at his country home in Eziabo Village, Oko, followed by a befitting community ceremony at the Alex Ekwueme Civic Centre.

A high-powered burial committee, led by Chief Larry Iloh of the Oko Council of Chiefs, has been constituted to deliver a dignified farewell that will attract government officials, dignitaries, and friends of the community.

Describing the late Onowu as an “illustrious, reliable and hardworking leader,” Igwe Prof. Ekwueme expressed deep sorrow, urging the committee to ensure the rites reflect the magnitude of his service.

President of the OPU, Nze Sunday Nwafor, lauded Onowu as a man of Christian simplicity, bravery, and exemplary carriage, while Chief Iloh, Chairman of the Burial Committee, pledged that the community would “leave no stone unturned” in honoring his legacy.

The community has invited sons, daughters, and well-wishers of Oko to join in paying their last respects to a leader whose contributions remain invaluable.
