Olumode Unveils Reform Plans as FCT Fire Service Backs FFS Leadership

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Fire Service has pledged closer collaboration with the Federal Fire Service (FFS) to enhance firefighting and emergency response in the nation’s capital.

Director of the FCT Fire Service, Engr. Zaccheaus Adebayo, made the commitment during a courtesy visit to the Controller General of the Federal Fire Service, Samuel Adeyemi Olumode, FCNA, ACTI, at the Service Headquarters, Area 10, Garki, Abuja.

Congratulating the Controller General on his recent appointment, Adebayo expressed readiness to align with his leadership vision. He underscored the need for stronger institutional ties through training, capacity building, modern infrastructure, inter-agency support, and skill development for officers.

In his response, Controller General Olumode assured the FCT delegation of his support and promised necessary interventions to strengthen the Service’s infrastructure and operational capacity. He revealed that sweeping reforms were underway, including a review of the Federal Fire Service Act scheduled for completion in December 2025.

Olumode further disclosed that the agency’s mandate would be expanded beyond firefighting to include wider rescue operations and emergency management nationwide.

He praised the FCT Fire Service for its solidarity and emphasized that collaboration remains central to advancing fire safety and protecting lives and property.
