The troops of Air and Ground of
Operation FANSAN YAMMA in Zamfara State in Real-time coordination from an Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance platform neutralized scores of bandits, with many others sustaining varying degrees of injuries.
In a press statement signed by Air Vice Marshal Olusola Akinboyewa, the Director Public Relations and Information Headquarters Nigerian Air Force and made available to newsmen in Abuja on Sunday, informed that the troops in a bold and meticulously delivered a crushing blow to the banditry of on Fakai Hills, a stronghold of notorious bandit leader Kachallah Bello Turji on January 10, 2025.
According to him, local intelligence reports confirm that Turji’s loyalists suffered heavy casualties, and the bandit leader’s whereabouts remain unknown, adding pressure on his crumbling network.
He said the operation was a testament to the military’s ability to coordinate air and ground assaults, ensuring accurate target correlation and delivering devastating blows to the enemy.
The statement noted that the air strikes and ground assaults were executed in multiple passes, with rockets and cannons used to engage the enemy as Aircrew maintained visual and radio contact with ground troops, ensuring a seamless operation
.
It mentioned that in a desperate bid to escape, bandits fleeing eastward of the hill were engaged and neutralized, preventing their escape.
The success of Operation FANSAN YAMMA has been met with widespread celebrations from locals in Zamfara State, who expressed relief and gratitude for the operation’s positive impact.
“The Nigerian Air Force has reiterated its commitment to coordinating with ground forces to eradicate all forms of criminality in the country.
“In a heartening outcome, several kidnapped victims were also freed during the operation, bringing hope to many families affected by banditry” he said.
“The Nigerian military remains resolute in its determination to restore peace and security to the region.
“With Operation FANSAN YAMMA, the military has sent a clear message that it will not tolerate banditry and other forms of criminality, and will continue to work tirelessly to protect the lives and properties of Nigerians.
