The Surveyor General of the Federation (SGOF), Abduganiyu Adeyemi Adebomehin, has reiterated the need for security agents and practitioners to acknowledge his office when planning security strategies in the country.

According to SGOF in a press statement made available to newsmen in Abuja on Thursday by Henry David, Head, Information and Publication Relations of OSGOF, mapping is an integral part of security architecture, and Nigeria cannot be an exception if it must effectively combat current insecurity.

Adebomehin informed that the office of the SGOF has digitized maps for each state, with a database attached to each, except where data is insufficient.

The SGOF called for paper presentations on mapping, and some security agencies have acknowledged the importance of mapping in their operations.

In his remark, Ike Okoronkwo, Group Managing Director of Nembe Exploration and Production Company Limited, emphasized the importance of mapping in defense and security, citing the role of surveying in the development of GPS technology.

“I don’t know how they will be talking about security and they don’t know about maps”, he said.
