In recognition for 35 years of meritorious service to NDA and his immense contributions to the advancement of the study of history, members of the NDA academic staff, seasoned academics and dignitaries from across the country, converged at the JN Garba Hall, Ribadu to pay tribute to Professor Ochon Echin Tangban, a leading professor of history at the Department of History and War Studies.

The occasion, which forms part of activities preceding the retirement of the don, was the presentation of a Festchrift titled, *Evolving Trends in Socio-Economic and Military History*. The book, a compilation of writings from several scholars within and outside the NDA, was put together in honour of Prof Tangban.

Speaking at the event, the Commandant Major General Jamil Sarham, described Professor Tangban as a mentor to many senior military officers as well as dozens of academics across the nation.

The Book Reviewer, Professor Mohammed Ibrahim Jumare of the Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto, who was represented at the event by Dr LO Odey, described the book as an “aptly titled tool”, which he said will go a long way in addressing some contemporary social, political, economic and military issues facing the country today.

The Special Guest of Honour at the event and former Commandant NDA, Major General MT Ibrahim (Rtd), Garkuwan Gumel, described Prof Tangban as an erudite scholar who achieved astounding successes in his illustrious career. He appealed to the retiring don to always avail himself to the Academy and the academia in general whenever he is called upon to do so.

Professor Ochin Echin Tangban joined the Academy as a pioneer staff of the Department of History and War Studies in 1985. He rose through the ranks and attained the rank of a professor. He has held several key positions including Head of Department, Dean of Faculty and Dean of Postgraduate School.
