The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says more than 2.6 million Nigerians have registered in just two weeks of its ongoing nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.

The update was released on Tuesday by Sam Olumekun, the National Commissioner and Chairman, Information & Voter Education Committee, following the Commission’s regular meeting in Abuja.

Online Pre-Registration Soars

According to INEC, 2,532,062 Nigerians pre-registered online between August 18 and August 31, 2025. The figures show:

1,218,482 (48.12%) male

1,313,580 (51.88%) female

1,602,484 (63.29%) aged 18–34

647,528 (25.57%) students

INEC stressed that online pre-registration remains incomplete until registrants appear in-person at designated centres to capture their biometric data.

The Commission urged Nigerians to ensure they complete the process at any of its 811 offices nationwide, warning that “the online process alone is invalid.”

In-Person Registrations Climb

For Nigerians without access to digital tools, the Commission opened in-person registration on August 25.

Within just five days (ending August 29), 72,274 citizens registered, with the majority being young people:

35,622 (49.29%) male

36,652 (50.71%) female

54,718 (75.71%) aged 18–34

30,953 (42.83%) students

Registration centres are open Monday to Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Transparency & Public Access

INEC confirmed that full graphic details, broken down by state, gender, age, occupation, and disability status have been uploaded to its official website and social media platforms for public access.

The Commission also commended citizens and civic organisations for mobilising mass participation, saying the turnout reflects growing trust in the process.
