The Nigeria Defence Academy (NDA), Afaka, Kaduna, on Thursday, rolled out the drums for its 35th Convocation Ceremony, producing 2,618 graduates, including 72 Regular Course Cadets, postgraduate diploma, master’s, and PhD students across various disciplines.
The event, held at the Academy’s permanent site, drew top dignitaries, with Vice President Kashim Shettima GCON as Special Guest of Honour and the Minister of Defence, H.E. Mohammed Badaru Abubakar CON, mni, represented by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa GCON.
In his welcome address, Commandant Major General A.K. Ibrahim stressed that all NDA academic programmes are fully accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC), noting the academy’s focus on capacity building, discipline, and excellence.
“Our cadets have consistently excelled, not just within Nigeria but also in foreign missions, proving the value of our training and academic standards,” he said.
The convocation featured the conferment of degrees, certificates, and academic prizes.
Categories of graduates included cadet officers, postgraduate diploma students, master’s degree holders, and PhD recipients.
The Honourable Minister of Defence Award went to Cadet G.A. Olowokere of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology as the best graduating cadet.
The ceremony also saw the award of honorary degrees to eminent Nigerians recognised for their outstanding contributions to national development and humanity.
The Vice President, alongside military chiefs and top dignitaries, praised the NDA for its role in shaping Nigeria’s next generation of military and academic leaders, stressing the academy’s pivotal role in safeguarding national sovereignty and advancing security.
The Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Dr. Sunday Musa Attah, also graced the event.
