The House Committee Chairman,on Water Resources on Oversight Function, Honourable Aliyu Bahago Ahman Pategi has registered his displeasure at the level of work done on the implementation of the budget as allocated to the River Basin Development Authority.
Honourable Aliyu Pategi stated this while speaking to journalists during the oversight function tour at the headquarters of Benin-Ovena River Basin Development Authority Benin, Edo State.
He blamed the Minister for Water Resources, Alhaji Sulaiman Adamu for intentionally subverting projects nominated by members of the House of Representatives for the betterment of over 2000 members of the benefiting community.
Hon. Pategi assured to take up the issue on why projects meant to solve the problem of water for a community will be intentionally left out by a Ministry under the instruction of the Minister in charge.
The Committee Chairman reminded House of Representative members that they are the closest to the people at the grassroots which is why they should understand the problems at the local level first hand.
He also decried the terrible condition of the road leading to Ukpoke Irrigation Farm which in their assessment is a big disadvantage to the establishment.
He opined that irrespective of the economic benefit of the irrigation farm, moving farm produce out will be unrealistic, thereby concluding that there’s no value for money on the Ukpoke Irrigation Farm.
Our correspondent who is among the tour reported that the Committee Chairman after his lamentation of the abandoned projects witnessed in Benin moved to Abeokuta for continuation of oversight function, to inspect the budget implementation carried out at the Ogun-Oshun River Basin Development Authority as provided by the laws of the land.
