Paris Olympics Ticket: SWAN wants early preparation for Super Falcons

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has commended the Super Falcons for breaking a 16-year jinx to qualify for the football event of 2024 Olympics slated for Paris, France.

President of SWAN, Mr. Isaiah Benjamin, in a statement via the Association’s Secretary-General, Amb. Ikenna Okonkwo, on Thursday reckoned that the resilient spirit of the Nigerian women saw them through against a toughened South African side.

While looking at the task ahead of the Nigerian women team as a dominant force in Africa in the past decades, President Benjamin expressed optimism that the Super Falcons will make bold statement at the upcoming Games despite enormous challenges facing them in the group they have been placed.

However, he said the quality of preparation is key ahead of the global competition.

Nigeria are in group C and will face world champions Spain, Japan and Brazil at the Olympic Games.

“The Super Falcons are really making Nigeria proud and they have only demonstrated what they are known for as the dominant force in Africa.

“After missing out at the Olympics since 2008 in Beijing, getting back wasn’t going to be easy at all. So, I salute their courage which is unprecedented.

“Despite the tough group they found themselves in the upcoming Olympic Games, I believe they can make a good statement if given the right preparations ahead.

“Yes, they can build on what they achieved at the 2023 World Cup where they showed the world that they no push overs at the global stage,” he said.

The number Sports Writer in Nigeria also thumbs up Nigeria’s Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, for once again showing leadership which propelled the women to go all the way.

The SWAN President then saluted the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation for always creating the right ambience focreating the right ambience for the team.
