Plateau State Governor, Barrister Caleb Mutfwang, has moved to anchor food security and local stability on a new security-driven agricultural initiative, assuring Defence Holdings Company Limited (DHCL) of his administration’s full partnership for the establishment of Defence Farms and Agro-Allied Products in Wase Local Government Area.
The Governor gave the assurance on Tuesday, January 28, 2026, while receiving the Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of DHCL, Air Vice Marshal Anthony Victor Ndace, and his delegation at the Government House, Jos.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Architect Samuel Jatau, Governor Mutfwang described the Defence Farms initiative as timely and strategic, particularly at a period of rising food demand and security concerns.
He reaffirmed the state government’s readiness to immediately hand over the 30,000 hectares of land already allocated to DHCL in Wase to enable the prompt take-off of the project.
According to the Governor, the Defence Farms project is expected to serve a dual purpose, boosting food production while strengthening security in Wase and neighbouring communities.
He commended the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, for his sustained efforts in promoting peace and national stability, and reiterated Plateau State’s resolve to work closely with DHCL and the Defence Headquarters to ensure a smooth and successful implementation of the initiative.
The Governor also encouraged members of the DHCL delegation to explore Plateau State’s rich cultural heritage and diverse landscape during their stay, while wishing them a fruitful engagement in the state.
Earlier, Air Vice Marshal Ndace said he was in Plateau State on behalf of the Chief of Defence Staff to formally thank the Governor for allocating 30,000 hectares of land at Wase for the pilot phase of the Defence Farms and Agro-Allied Products programme.
He disclosed that the visit was accompanied by a technical assessment team mandated to evaluate the land and identify concrete areas of collaboration with the Plateau State Government, in line with the Federal Government’s broader food security agenda.
Ndace expressed appreciation for the warm reception accorded his team and offered prayers for sustained peace and accelerated development across Plateau State.
Highlights of the visit included a detailed presentation on the agricultural potentials of the expansive 98,000 hectares of land in Wase, from which 30,000 hectares has been earmarked for the first phase of the Defence Farms project, as well as the exchange of souvenirs and a group photograph involving state officials and members of the DHCL delegation.
With the partnership framework now in place, the Defence Farms initiative is expected to position Plateau State as a key contributor to national food security, while reinforcing peace and economic activity in one of its strategic local government areas.
