It has been observed that why the Nigeria President, Muhammadu Buhari is being concerned about the social media is because the social media puts the leaders on their toes to do the needful.
The observation was made during an interview with our correspondent who sampled people’s opinion on President Muhammadu Buhari’s speech on the use of social media by Nigerians to criticize the leaders in Kaduna, North-West, Nigeria Tuesday.
Our correspondent who went round Kaduna and interview categories of citizens of the country report that some of them spoke against and some spoke in favour of the present.
According to Report Circle, those who spoke against the President’s speech said the fact that Nigeria leaders, the Federal Government and the State Government have failed in its responsibility to provide good governance by taking care the welfare of the poorest of the poor in the country, they resolve to social media to be heard.
They lamented that why President Buhari is criticizing what is dash out by the social is because, the political leaders cannot control the social media as the control the conventional medias the like. the opinion that the social media puts the leaders on their toes to do the needful.
“The fact that Nigeria leaders, Federal Government and State Government have failed in its responsibility to provide good governance, taking care the welfare of the poorest of the poor in the country.
“Why President Buhari are criticizing what is dash out by the social is because, the political leaders cannot control the social media as the control the conventional media.
“I have some much respect for President Buhari’s concern about the use of social media but that the Change Agenda which his government promised is not doing what is right by listening to the voice of the masses and their plight so they resolve to social media.
“President Buhari came on the platform of providing jobs for the teaming unemployed youths, look at the ASSU strike that is going on Government must respond adequately and quickly to arrest the situation but nothing is being done.
“So for the government to complained about the social media being used to disrupt unity which is the only platform the masses are being heard could be true which some of them are being sponsored to do so by politicians but will be less if the youths are gainfully employed and will not have the time to go on social media.
“if you could recalled, those youths in Kaduna who sent quit notice asking the Igbos to leave the north and the northern governors condemned it and demand for the arrest of those youths including the Kaduna State Government but up till now no arrested has been made.
“The government should not be talking that the condemned hate speech but actions must be taken to punish the cause of such message.
“President Buhari should not blame but take pro-active measures but tracing those responsible for spreading the hate speech messages and punished them cut across which would serve as deterrent to others.
Also, in his opinion, a Legal Practitioner, Barrister Auta Maisamari who spoke in favour informed that it is unfortunately the social media is a universal media that some people can sit in their homes and will be making comments that are not right.
According to him, unless, there is a device or a way or be able to track down who is saying what or commenting what, it will be very difficult to be able to control the flow of social media in these digital days.
“Certainly, if you have the opportunity or you are one of the persons that have access to the social media, you will agree with me that some of the things that are contained in the social media are very terrible and people talk without control, people say all manner of things.
“Unfortunately, social media is a universal media that somebody can sit in their neighborhood and will be making comments and you do not know that he or she is close by.
“In view of the fact that the means of identifying who is saying or commenting what using fake name is a very difficult one, so that is the challenges now in social media , if it is one of the convectional media, you could walk to the organization and demand that they should desist from such comment.
“So unless if there is device or a way or be able to track down who is saying what or commenting what, it will be very difficult to be able to control the flow of social media in this digital days” he stressed.
Some of the citizens who also spoke against the issue in argument about President Buhari’s speech on the use of social media said what brought President Buhari to power is the use of social media against former President Good Luck Jonathan and he did not say anything, why now. They ask
