The Apostolic Administrator of Jos Archdioceses, His Grace, Most Reverend Ignatius Kaigama has called on Catholic Media Practitioners of Nigeria (CAMPAN) to use the new media to propagate their faith and values of the church.
According to him, the church need to be more visible and better propagated to understand by others, noting that CAMPAN have the powerful tool to make this happen by hijacking the social media to the favour of the church.
The Apostolic Administrator made the call in his speech at the official opening ceremony of the Catholic Media Practitioners of Nigeria (CAMPAN) 3rd National Convention with the Theme: The New Media and Evangelization in Nigeria “A Reflection” at Sacred Heart Pastoral Centre, Jos on 25th of September 2019, North-West, Nigeria.
Bishop Kaigma who gave the assurance of support of Catholic Bishops to the cause stressed the need for CAMPAN to use the new media to improve the society and propagate positively the social values of the church in every nook and crannies of the world they find themselves.
“As catholic media practitioner, your impact is felt in the nation, we are only asking you to do more, the catholic church need to be more visible and our faith need to be better propagated to better understood by other and you have the power to do this, to collaborate with us.
“Use the new media to improve the society and propagate the faith and positive values and ventures of the church. I assure you the bishop’s support and solidarity. I asked you to intensify effort wherever you come from or your dioceses” He opines.
Meanwhile, administering the homily as part of activity to mark the official opening of 3rd CAMPAN Convention, the National Director of Social Communication (CSN), Reverend Father Christian Anyanwu in his sermon told CAMPAN that God will be happy as they use the media for evangelization, promote the gospels and ensure the voice of God is Heard.
“The theme that we have chosen in this convention is apt, the media is only the tool we can use to make the gospel of Christ known and ensure that the voice of God is heard.
“We cannot remove communication in building relationship. God is happy as we use the media for evangelization and promote the gospels, the theme that we have chosen in this convention, the media is only the tool we can use to make the gospel of Christ known and ensure that the voice of God is heard.
“Let us promote the values of the gospels because that is why you were called, it is our own vocation, and everyone working in different media house as a catholic has a role to contribution in evangelization.
“We have a greater responsibility in wherever we find ourselves to make the voice of the church heard to ensure that the gospel values are proclaims in our little way.
“I thank the pioneer executives of CAMPAN for their hard work in ensuring the association’s impact is felt within two years of its formation. “If you continue to lay a solid and strong foundation for CAMPAN it will stand the test of time”.
“I congratulate participants, CBCN has asked me to inform all archdiocese and dioceses to ensure CAMPAN chapters is established before their next convention and to also woo big players in the media industry, active and retired to be part of CAMPAN projects and activities in their dioceses” He noted.
He therefore charged the participants to always be witness as well as consistent in the Catholic faith even in the face of professional challenges.
