Hon. Ukodhiko Jonathan, representing Isoko North and South Federal Constituency of Delta State, has dismissed concerns about Nigeria becoming a one-party state under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
Instead, he attributed the recent wave of defections to the APC’s progressive reform policies and the Renewed Hope Agenda.
According to Hon. Jonathan in an interview with journalists in Abuja shortly after President Bola Tinubu Joint sitting on Democracy Day, citizens are joining the APC because they see the promise of progress and development.
He emphasized that the decision to join the party is driven by citizens’ perception of progress, rather than coercion.
The Lawmaker noted that Nigeria’s democratic space allows for multiple parties to exist and operate, citing the registration of new parties by INEC.
He also commended the working relationship between the legislature and executive, describing it as crucial for the country’s growth and development.
Hon. Jonathan praised the democratic values of freedom of speech, choice, and lawful liberty that have endured for 26 years, contrasting them with the restrictive era of military rule.
He also endorsed the APC-led administration’s “painful but necessary” decisions aimed at moving the country forward.
