The atmosphere inside the Directorate of Army Public Relations (DAPR) in Abuja crackled with emotion and pride as eight soldiers stepped forward to receive new ranks symbols of years of discipline, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to the Nigerian Army.

The decoration ceremony, held on 28 November 2025, was led by Acting Director of DAPR, Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, who described the moment as “a celebration of excellence, loyalty, and the enduring spirit of service.”

It was more than a routine military protocol. It was a public reaffirmation of the Army’s commitment to rewarding merit at a time when professionalism and strategic communication have become central to national security operations.

Clad in full ceremonial uniform and exuding the authority of her office, Lieutenant Colonel Anele congratulated the newly promoted officers, urging them to see their new ranks not as an endpoint, but a renewed call to higher duty.

“Promotion is not a gift. It is earned,” she declared. “Your elevation strengthens this Directorate and reinforces the image of the Nigerian Army. You must uphold the discipline and professionalism that your new badges demand.”

She reminded the soldiers that as ambassadors of the Army’s information machinery, the weight of their responsibilities had increased, especially in an era where narratives shape perceptions and perceptions shape public trust.

Lieutenant Colonel Anele used the occasion to express deep appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, whose leadership, she said, has redefined personnel motivation across formations.

According to her, the promotions reflect the COAS’ unwavering commitment to:

Strengthening operational efficiency

Enhancing personnel welfare

Rewarding loyalty and hard work

Building a motivated, effective communication corps

“The support of the Chief of Army Staff empowers this Directorate to function at peak capacity,” she noted. “These promotions are proof that excellence will always be recognized.”

In her address, Anele urged the newly promoted Senior Non-Commissioned Officers to take up the mantle of mentorship, guiding younger personnel and maintaining regimentation across the Directorate.

She underscored the importance of leadership by example, especially for those entrusted with shaping the Army’s public interface.

Speaking on behalf of the recipients, Warrant Officer Mohammed Hassan expressed heartfelt gratitude, acknowledging the weight of the honour bestowed upon them.

He thanked God, the Chief of Army Staff, and the Directorate for finding them worthy of elevation.

> “We will justify this trust,” he pledged. “This promotion challenges us to give more, serve better, and remain unwavering in our loyalty to the Nigerian Army.”

The ceremony is closed to applause, handshakes, and quiet moments of pride proof that beyond the uniform and the drills, the Nigerian soldier’s journey is powered by recognition, motivation, and a relentless pursuit of excellence.
