The Rivers State Government has moved to strengthen youth service administration in the South-South with the delivery of a new operational vehicle to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), reinforcing its commitment to institutional support and public-sector efficiency.

The Toyota Hilux van, presented to the NYSC South-South 2 Area Office, fulfills a pledge made by Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara during a courtesy visit by the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, to Government House, Port Harcourt, in November 2025.

The vehicle was formally handed over on behalf of the state government by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Benibo Anabraba, to the Area Office Director, Mr. Phillip Enaberue.

State officials said the intervention is aimed at improving operational mobility, field supervision and administrative coordination of the scheme across the region, where NYSC activities cut across multiple states and difficult terrains.

Also present at the presentation were a Permanent Secretary in the Office of the SSG, Sir Dede Friday, and the NYSC State Coordinator, Mr. Moses Oleghe, underscoring the state’s institutional backing for the corps.

Observers say the move reflects a broader policy signal by the Fubara administration to honour intergovernmental commitments and invest in systems that support youth development, national integration and public service delivery.

For NYSC, the additional operational asset is expected to ease logistical constraints and enhance oversight of corps members, particularly in rural and hard-to-reach postings.

The donation adds to Rivers State’s long-standing reputation as one of the more supportive subnational governments in the implementation of the national youth service scheme, at a time when operational efficiency and safety remain key concerns for the programme.
