The Senate has lamented that the residents of many communities in Adamawa and Borno State lives in perpetual fear of attack due to poor road network along Mararaba-Mubi-Michika Bama route.
This was contained in a motion titled: Urgent Need to Investigate the Rehabilitation of Mararaba-Mubi-Michika Bama Road Contract, sponsored by Senator Ishaku Elisha Abbo from Adamawa North.
According to him, the route has continued to get a nightmare despite awarding the contract for three years by RHAS Nigeria Limited on 27th of February 2017 as part of Federal Goverments reconstruction effort of the north Eastern part of Nigeria.
Senator Abbo mentioned that RHAS company received payment of one billion, six hundred and twenty five million naira (1.625,000,000) in 3 installment, saying for over 2 years, with the mobilizations money, no meaningful progress has been made on the project except constructions of drainage and culverts.
He was of the opinion that the economic and social life in Adamawa and Borno States has been affected fundamentally and negatively due to the condition of the Mararaba-Mubi-Michika Bama Road and make movement impossible.
Seconding the motion, Senator Abbah Moro said across the country, contracts awarded by ministry of works has been abadoned not because of funds but the fact that the contractors see contracts as cheap cake and called for special investigation.
Contributing to the motion, Senator Aishatu Tahiru Ahmed added that in Nigeria now,vsome if the contractors believed that once they’ve secured a contract, it becomes their own national cake and request for investigation on the road project
Responding, the President of the Senate, Senator Ahmed Lawan mandated the Committee on Works to Investigate by calling the ministry of Works and Housing to appear before it to explain why the road rehabilitation stopped.
