Senate pledges support to FRSC to optimize operations

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Federal Character, Senator Allwell Onyesoh has pledged unwavering support to the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) to optimize its operations.

Onyesoh gave the assurance during an interactive session in Abuja on Thursday, when he appeared before the Senate Committee on Federal Character, led by Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed.

He emphasized the committee’s commitment to persuading the Senate to allocate increased funding for the Commission and extended congratulate Mohammed on his recent appointment.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Senate has called upon the FRSC to streamline its emergency response time, citing that their delays have resulted in avoidable loss of lives and property.

In response to the committee’s feedback, Corp Marshal Shehu Mohammed acknowledged the need for improvement within the Commission.

He highlighted the shortage of towing trucks as a hindrance to operational efficiency and sought the committee’s support in addressing this challenge.

Corp Marshal Mohammed said plans to launch a mobile application designed to pinpoint high-risk areas and forewarn drivers of potential crash zones along highways.

This innovative app will serve as a comprehensive platform for accessing FRSC services and guidelines conveniently.

According to him, the Commission’s initiative to integrate technology by equipping personnel with body cameras and implementing electronic booking systems to streamline administrative processes and reduce operational costs.
