The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, CFR, was on Tuesday conferred with the prestigious Fellowship of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) during the 30th Annual National Conference of the association in Abuja.
The recognition, Fellow Certified National Accountant (FCNA), is the highest professional designation awarded by ANAN to its members who have demonstrated excellence and leadership in the field of accounting.
In an emotional ceremony, ANAN’s President and Chairman of the Council, Chief (Hajia) Zuwairat Talatu Kishimi, FCNA, administered the oath of allegiance to Senator Barau, who is himself an accountant by profession.
As she presented him with the FCNA designation, Kishimi hailed the Deputy Senate President as a “good ambassador” of both the profession and the association.
“By the powers vested in me by the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), I hereby admit you into the fellowship of the association. We are proud of you, Senator Barau, and we celebrate your outstanding contributions to Nigeria’s financial landscape,” Kishimi declared, as the crowd erupted in applause.
The conference saw a string of dignitaries come forward to shower praise on the Deputy Senate President.
In his address, Shamseldeen Ojunjimi, Accountant-General of the Federation and representative of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, commended Senator Barau for his significant role in shaping Nigeria’s fiscal policy.
Mal Adamu Abubakar, ANAN’s Chairman of the Conferences, Seminars, and Workshops Committee, referred to Senator Barau as a “reform-minded statesman” whose contributions continue to impact Nigeria’s financial governance.
“Senator Barau’s career reflects exceptional mastery of public finance management, honed through his leadership of Appropriation committees in both chambers of the National Assembly,” Abubakar said.
In his acceptance speech, Senator Barau praised ANAN for its unwavering dedication to improving Nigeria’s financial sector.
He highlighted the association’s critical role in enforcing ethics, governance, and accountability within public financial management, noting its impact on the National Assembly’s legislative efforts to reform Nigeria’s fiscal laws.
“ANAN has made significant strides in reinforcing the ethics of financial management in Nigeria, and I commend the association for its role in ensuring that accountants are at the forefront of fiscal responsibility,” said the Deputy Senate President.
“By supporting the implementation of the Fiscal Responsibility Act, ANAN has helped optimize the management of public funds and contributed to Nigeria’s ongoing fiscal reforms.”
The conferment of the FCNA on Senator Barau underscores his longstanding commitment to Nigeria’s financial stability and accountability.
As a former chair of the Appropriation Committees in both the Senate and the House of Representatives, Senator Barau has been a central figure in the management of the nation’s public finances, ensuring that fiscal policies are both transparent and effective.
With this prestigious honor, Senator Barau joins an elite group of professionals who have made remarkable contributions to the nation’s accounting and financial governance.
His leadership continues to resonate as a beacon of fiscal discipline and reform.
